Why Rwanda?

Rwanda is a compact, extraordinarily well-organised country that delivers a world-class gorilla trekking experience just 2 hours from Kigali airport. It is more expensive than Uganda for gorilla permits ($1,500 vs $800) but offers faster access, outstanding luxury lodges, and a country that has transformed itself into one of Africa's most impressive destinations.

Rwanda is not only about gorillas. Akagera National Park on the eastern border with Tanzania offers Big Five game viewing including recently reintroduced rhino and lion. Nyungwe Forest in the southwest has chimpanzees and canopy walks.

Gorilla Permit Cost: $1,500

Rwanda gorilla permit: $1,500 per person, no low-season discount

This is the most expensive gorilla permit in the world. Rwanda does not offer low-season discounts, unlike Uganda ($600 in low season). The price funds conservation and community development. It is expensive — but the product and access are genuinely excellent.
